Abstract

Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is a plant with dual benefits: it can be consumed as a fresh vegetable (commonly as
a raw side dish) and is also used as a raw material for phytopharmaceuticals and spices. The research was
conducted at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Winaya Mukti University, Sumedang, West
Java, at an altitude of 870 meters above sea level. The study took place from April to June 2025. A non-factorial
Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used with five treatments: A (0 g plant⁻¹ – control), B (1.05 g
plant⁻¹), C (2.1 g plant⁻¹), D (3.15 g plant⁻¹), and E (4.2 g plant⁻¹), each repeated five times. The results showed
that the application of nitrogen urea fertilizer significantly affected the growth and yield of basil plants, including
plant height at 4, 5, and 7 days after transplanting (DAT); number of leaves at 4, 5, 6, and 8 DAT; number of
branches at 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 DAT; fresh weight per plant; and fresh weight per plot. The dosage of 3.15 g plant⁻¹
resulted in the best performance in terms of growth and yield.
