Seeds that have expired experience a decline in viability and vigor, and when used in rice cultivation efforts, they will negatively affect growth and have low germination or viability. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the concentration of PEG 6000 solution and the duration of soaking on the viability and vigor of expired rice seeds. The rice used in this study is the Inpari 32 variety, which has been expired for 10 months from the seed label. This study uses a completely randomized design consisting of 16 treatments with 2 replications. There are 16 treatment combinations of soaking concentration with PEG 6000 at 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%, and soaking durations of 12, 24, 36, and 48 hours. The variables observed in this study include germination power, vigor index, wet weight of sprouts, dry weight of sprouts, and root shoot ratio. The research results indicate that the osmoconditioning treatment with PEG 6000 can enhance the viability and vigor of expired rice seeds, with a germination rate of 92.5% and a vigor index of 61.5%. The osmoconditioning treatment using 30% PEG 6000 with a soaking duration of 36 hours is effective in improving the viability and vigor of expired rice seeds.
