Efektivitas Komunikasi dalam Abstrak Berbahasa Inggris Jurnal Agribisnis Berdasarkan Prinsip IMRaD dan Komunikasi Pertanian

Abstract

The abstract serves as the primary gateway for scientific communication, particularly in applied fields like agribusiness. However, its effectiveness depends not only on the formal IMRaD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) but also on its ability to convey context and practical implications for stakeholders. This study evaluates the communication effectiveness in 30 English-language abstracts from OrchidAgri: Jurnal Ilmiah Agribisnis (2021–2023) by combining an assessment of IMRaD completeness and an evaluation of alignment with agricultural communication principles, specifically the inclusion of research background and practical implications. A quantitative content analysis with binary coding was employed. Results show that while Introduction (purpose) and Results are present in all abstracts (100%), research background appears in only 7 abstracts (23.3%), and the Discussion section is absent in 7 abstracts (23.3%). Only 40% include practical recommendations. When measured against the alignment criterion (simultaneous presence of background and practical implications), only 7 abstracts (23.3%) are aligned, while 23 (76.7%) are misaligned. These findings indicate a strong emphasis on empirical aspects and a significant neglect of contextual and practical communication. It is recommended that journals provide guidelines encouraging the inclusion of background and practical implications to strengthen the abstract’s role as a knowledge transfer tool.
