INFLUENCE OF PHENOTYPIC TRAITS APPEARANCE ON SEVERAL SWEET CORN (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) PLANT BREEDS MS UNSIKA IN MARGINAL LAND OF KARAWANG REGENCY

The development of maize varieties for lowland adaptation necessitates hybrid candidates possessing genotypes that are resistant to lowland conditions. These genotypes can be identified by their superior phenotypic characteristics. Phenotypic traits in sweet corn comprise physical characteristics or observable attributes in the plants, which significantly impact the yield and quality of the sweet corn. The research objective was to obtain MS-UNSIKA sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) strains that have the best phenotypic appearance. The research method was conducted experimentally using a single-factor Randomized Group Design (RAK) with 10 treatments and 3 replications with 6 strains: P1 (MS UNSIKA 1); P2 (MS UNSIKA 2); P3 (MS UNSIKA 3); P4 (MS UNSIKA 4); P5 (MS UNSIKA 5); P6 (MS UNSIKA 6) and 4 comparison varieties P7 (G11 Talenta); P8 (Maestro S1); P9 (Talenta F2) P10 (Bonanza F2 )so that there are 30 experimental unit. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the MS UNSIKA 5 line displayed the best phenotypic character in plant height of 170.10 cm and the number of plant leaves of 12 strands, MS UNSIKA 1 displayed the best phenotypic character in cob weight with husk weighing 211.11 grams and without husk weighing 205.55 grams. These results indicate that MS UNSIKA sweet corn plants are superior in plant height, number of leaves and cob weight without clobber.
