Abstract

Watershed rehabilitation is a strategic effort to maintain environmental sustainability, particularly in the context of sustainable natural resource management. In Indonesia, watershed rehabilitation is implemented through planting activities on degraded land, as regulated by Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.23/2021, which requires a minimum planting success rate of 75%. This study analyzes the success of planting activities conducted within a 13-ha rehabilitation area in the Remu Watershed Protected Forest, Sorong City, Indonesia. A quantitative descriptive-analytic approach was applied using systematic sampling with a random start at 5% intensity, resulting in seven sample plots of 0.1 ha (40 × 25 m). Data were collected to evaluate planting realization, survival percentage, growth performance, and compliance with regulatory standards. The results showed that planting realization reached 100% of the targeted area, with an average survival rate of 95.01% (419 surviving trees out of 441 individuals). The planted species included Merbau, Mahogany, Linggua, Cempedak, Durian, Areca nut, Rambutan, and Cashew, with plant heights ranging from 80 to 400 cm. The planting performance exceeded the regulatory threshold and was therefore classified as successful. Despite variations in slope and understory vegetation, overall site conditions were generally favorable for plant growth
